DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION PEDAGOGY

The Department of Physical Education Pedagogy is continuously striving for excellence in Physical Education by improving its faculty in terms of qualification, commitment and innovation, updated curriculum; teaching processes and technology. The PEP department is one of the oldest and founder department of the institution, and it is among the pioneer Physical Education Departments in India.

In the initial phase of the institution the department was started with the Three years Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE – 1957) and two years Master of Physical Education (MPE) in 1963. The duration of the Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.E.) course was initially of three years. To bring it at par with other professional degree courses, as also match the International standards, the duration of the course was extended to four years integrated course and the course was renamed as Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) Integrated. Currently the department holds the maximum enrollment of the students in the institute.   

The vision of the Department of Physical Education Pedagogy is to facilitate research and scholarly enquiry, the preparation of quality professionals, and the provision of services in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. We embrace lifelong opportunities for discovery, learning and participation that contribute to healthy lifestyle.

DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS BIOMECHANICS

The Department of Sports Biomechanics caters to the need of students in the area of analysis of human movements and sports techniques. Stress is laid on the development of in-depth knowledge in the area of science of sports techniques and its practical application. The graduates, after passing this course shall be able to analyse the efficiency of human movement and provide scientific backup in the area of sports techniques.

DEPARTMENT OF EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY

Exercise Physiology is the study of biological and biochemical processes associated with exercise and overload that affect the underlying function of cells and organ systems in the human body. Exercise physiology is a rapidly evolving field that is becoming increasingly important in wellness, care of sports persons and the delivery of health care. Exercise physiologists work to prevent or delay the onset of chronic disease in healthy participants or to provide therapeutic or functional benefits to patients with known diseases. The aim of the Department is to prepare qualified professionals at different levels to promote health and quality of life through the use of appropriate physical activity and lifestyle behaviours.

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SCIENCES

The Department aims to disseminate knowledge and proficiency in health care, fitness, total health through different courses by adopting a multidisciplinary approach. The objective is to re-orient the physical education professionals and other graduates in the field of health and fitness so as to generate vocational opportunities and provide services to the society for wellness and quality living.

DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY

Department of sport psychology was established in the year 2012 to provide quality education in the field of sport psychology. The department has got dedicated team of highly qualified competent teachers to provide the teaching and research in the area of sport psychology. The department is having sufficient infrastructure for class rooms and laboratory including smart class rooms & departmental library. The laboratory of the department is full of modern scientific world class equipments for the purpose of advance research in the field of sport psychology. Presently the department is running the post graduate course “Master in Physical Education” of four semesters and Ph.D. in physical education as per institute’s ordinance/UGC Regulations.

The Department of sport psychology is also committed to excellence in teaching, research and community services by providing quality education and congenial environment to staff, scholars and students.

DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS MANAGEMENT & COACHING

The main object is to prepare high quality sport managers , coaches, physical fitness trainers, sports journalist and event managers in various games/sports with micro specializations, in order to cater to the ever-increasing demand of the society and to uplift the standard of Indian sports.

Apart from the Masters’ Programme the Department offers 2-semester Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching (PGDSC) and Diploma in Sports Coaching (DSC) for developing competency and enhancing skills of the participants in the field of sports coaching. The Department also offer 2-semester Post Graduate Diploma in Fitness Management (PGDFM), Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management (PGDSM) and Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Journalism (PGDSJ) .

DEPARTMENT OF YOGIC SCIENCES

Department of Yogic Sciences is a newly established department, which was earlier under the umbrella of The Department of Health Sciences & Yoga till May, 2016. A separate department of Yogic Sciences was thought to be a necessity due to the growing awareness towards healthy living through Yoga. The ancient roots of Yoga are popular all over the world and are in great demand. Thus, keeping in mind the demand of the subject and its role in promoting good health of the citizens, Institute felt the necessity of making Yogic Sciences as a separate department to promote and nurture the ancient art of living, for well being of global citizens. As it is said, yoga believes in “ Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, it was felt to prepare able leaders of tomorrow in the field of Yoga so that it is understood in the right perspective and in the right spirit. To fulfill this purpose, the department pays a great attention on the theory and practice of it.
