Central Library is a true reflection of Physical Education & Sports culture of excellence which is known country wide. The library, like all vibrant and productive organizations, strives to keep pace with a global, dynamic, and technology-enabled information environment to meet the expectations of its users.

Central Library continues to march to its mission of facilitating the creation of new knowledge through the acquisition, organization, and dissemination of library materials. It offers a range of services including reference and consultation, membership and circulation, document delivery, resource sharing, information alert service, and user awareness programmes.

Facilities

  • A large number of professional books, literature & research journals are available in the library. There is a unique collection of 63,050 books related to Physical Education and Sports of foreign and Indian Authors. Interlibrary withdrawal and reprography facilities are available.
  • The Library is famous for its rare collection of books, and is equipped with Xerox Machine, Micro Film Reader for use by students and visitors.
  • Computers with internet facility are provided for Research Scholars to access study material online.
  • The Library is equipped with a highly sensitive security system, rarely available in libraries. The entire Central Library is a WI-FI Zone for scholars to download research materials.
  • Rarely available microfilm and video cassettes, and E-Books on CD-ROMs are available for in-depth study.

Ground Floor

Total build up area: 1850.29 sq.mtr. The following sections are available:

  • Periodical Section: Study hall area: 338.90 sq.mtr. More than 4550 back volumes of journals are stored. Provision for display of latest periodicals. 80 students can be seated at a time. [List of Journals]
  • Separate office (15"x15") for incharge and microfilm reader. 70 microfilms and other non-book material for research scholars. Subscribes to 45 International and 20 National Journals related to physical education and allied areas.
  • Reading Hall: Carpet area: 529.37 sq.mtr. Provision for 200 students, office of Asst. Librarian, Library Committee, and Reference Services. Latest magazines and informative materials are displayed for current awareness.
  • Catalogue Area: 169.84 sq.mtr. Books are arranged in six cabinets by subject and author. 20 newspapers are displayed in the area.
  • Library Office: 150.00 sq.mtr. Office of the Librarian and book acquisition section.
  • Circulation Section: 8x8 sq.mtr. Double window system for issue and return of books for all members.

First Floor

Total build up area: 1828.65 sq.mtr. The following sections are available:

  • Reference Section: Study area: 239.5 sq.mtr. Reference books include encyclopedias, year books, hand books, directories, dictionaries, biographies, maps, atlases, and other sources. 50 students can consult reference materials at a time.
  • Conference Hall: 168.80 sq.mtr. Furnished for 70 participants.
  • Thesis Section: 225.7 sq.mtr. Theses of M.P.E., M.Phil., and Ph.D. scholars (total 4800) in glass cupboards. Four cubicles for foreign/outside scholars. 60 students can be seated. [List of Thesis]
  • Digital Library: 154.02 sq.mtr. 12 computers for consultation of thesis and rare books. Theses scanned and saved as E-Books up to 2010. 1,75,000 pages scanned and available as E-Books.
  • Photo Gallery: 150 sq.mtr. About 270 photographs related to university history are displayed.

Semi Basement & Book Stack

Book storage stacking space: 1502.00 sq.mtr. Provision for binding section, newspaper store, technical section, book bank, and stores for old items (224.94 sq.mtr). 55,000 books arranged by Dewey Decimal Classification scheme.

Data Bases Subscribed by Central Library

The institute library is also linked-up with DELNET (Developing Library Network) for searching the Articles and Books in the field of Physical Education and Sports. The institute library has also subscribed J-Gate Data Base for providing seamless access to millions of journal and articles available online offered by 12,000+ publishers. Presently, it has a massive database for journals and literature, indexed from 41,000+ e-Journals with link to full text at publishers’ sites. The Institute Central library is also linked with National Digital Library managed by IIT Karagpur.

The library catalogue (Web OPAC) is now available at your desktop 24x7. One can search Books, Articles, Journals and Theses etc. through OPAC absolutely traffic free.
