Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education began its life in 1957, in the form of Lakshmibai College of Physical Education (LCPE), in memory of Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, as a college of physical education, affiliated to Vikram University. In 1964, the college was shifted to Jiwaji University.
1.1.6 Any other details-the genesis, inception, formation of the department and the HoDs from time to time as well as the committees/ Commissions consulted from time to time have been dealt In 1973, the college was renamed to Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE) and nine years later, in 1982, was upgraded as an autonomous college. A further name change occurred in 1995, to Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education. In 2000, the name Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education was accepted when it was declared, by the Government of India, as a deemed university, handing over the affairs to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, which is funding all its activities. In 2017, it was renamed as Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education after a UGC order to not use the word "University" in deemed universities' names.

1.3 Procedure followed in decision-making process [Section 4(1)(b)(iii)]
1.3.1 Process of decision making Identify key decision-making points Decisions are taken in accordance with the provisions of the MoA of the Institute received from Ministry of Youth Affairs asn Sports (Department of Sports) and the decisions taken by BoM from time to time and procedures/practices of the Institute. Policy matters are decided at the level of Vice Chancellor / BoM.
The Institute has adopted a decentralized administrative structure, thereby enabling Departments to take decisions in conformity with the rules of the Institute and within the delegated powers.

1.4.1 Nature of functions/ services offered Norms and Standards for various activities of the Institute are those as laid down by the competent authority, such as, the BoM. The Annual Report prepared under the direction of BoM and its annual meetings along with audited accounts, etc. of the Institute.
The Annual Report of the Institute along with Audited Accounts are placed on the table of both the Houses of the Parliament.
LNIPE is an institution of Physical Education devoted to Physical Education teaching and Research. All the Administrative Offices, Labs, Play Grounds, Fitness Centers, Multipurpose Hall, Arena for Combat Sports, Central Facilities, Libraries, Hostels etc. are located on its Campus which facilitate quick communication channels to and from. The general code for discharge of its daily functions is to accomplish work on day-to-day basis, keeping in view the requirement and urgency of each case.
